Welcome March

March arrived and we really hit the ground running! We've seeded tens of thousands of seeds already including onions, herbs, flowers, strawberries, lettuce, and early brassicas. We will be seeding every week from now until about mid July! This allows us to have continual harvests throughout the entire season. Often, we replant certain crops at least 4 times a season. Some things, like lettuce, many many more than that!

Seeding trays as fast as I can fill them!

Our operation is truly done all by hand. No fancy pot filler machine or vacuum seeder in sight! ;) Since we do a little of a lot of things (meaning we aren't planting acres of any one particular thing), each seed we start is carefully planted with a pair of tweezers. Fine motor skills to the rescue!

Oh what a beautiful sight!

We tilled tunnel number one this past weekend in preparation for spring planting. The warm weather we've been having has allowed us to get a jump start on tunnel prep. Next step is to start shoveling our raised beds so we can plant by April 1st.

This past week, the baby chicks arrived! It's always one of our favorite events of the year, and a sure sign that spring in near. They don't stay little for long, so we enjoy this brief moment while it lasts. Then the egg countdown begins!
