Lettuce Has Arrived!

It's that time of year! We've officially started harvesting lettuce, radishes, & spring greens!

It's been a bit stressful around here trying to manage this crazy heat wave, but so far we've had minimal damage to our cool loving crops. We're trying to adapt as best we can to these crazy temperature swings. High 80s for four days and then forecast predicts back down to nearly freezing temperatures at night with highs in the 40s and 50s. It's just wild. We are watering lots and putting as much shade cloth up to protect our young transplants. Hoping this will get us through with out too much damage to the plants.

For now, the lettuce is vibrant green, super sweet, tender, with just the right amount of crunch!

First harvest of radishes this morning. :)

This past Saturday we kicked off our market season at the Grand Rapid Farmer's Market with a beautiful, warm, sunny day. It was delightful to see familiar & new faces alike. The flowers are blooming, herbs smell fantastic, cold hardy veggies are ready to plant, & our heat loving plants are putting on some nice growth.

One positive of the heat is the tomatoes are really taking off!

Quick update on eggs...

I know many of you are looking for eggs, but unfortunately production is still low. This means we basically are only able to cover our standing orders. Keep checking Monday mornings as we will list what we can, but don't be surprised if you see them sold out most weeks. Still hopeful this will turn around, especially when our new chicks start laying!

Another note: If the forecast stays as it is currently, we will most likely not be attending market this Saturday. (High of 41 degrees!) If that's the case, we will have the Plant Greenhouse open here at the farm for shopping. Please stay tuned!
